The Water (re)Cycle
July 11-22

Ages: Entering 5th to Entering 7th Grades

Almost all of the water on Earth, more than 97 percent of it, is seawater in the oceans. The rest is called fresh water, because it does not have a high salt content. Most of the world’s fresh water is frozen solid in large glaciers in Antarctica and Greenland. Almost all of the fresh water that is available for human use is either contained in soil and rock below the surface, called groundwater, or in rivers and lakes. In this 2-week summer camp, we will be looking at where our water in Little Rock comes from, where it goes after we use it and how we can help to keep our water clean and conserve it. We will be making our own aquifers and do experiments regarding the water cycle, acid rain and water pollution, among others. We will go out into the field to do water testing, see our natural aquifers and reservoirs, as well as meet with professionals who oversee our city water system.
